I recently discoved The Oak in Notting Hill and it probably didn’t go unnoticed that I am a huge fan! The Oak is really a hidden gem in Notting hill, as it is located a little bit off the rest of places on Westbourne Grove and looks like an average pub from the outside. It would be easy just to walk by… but you really shouldn’t!
I’ve lived in London for a year now and since going out for dinner is one of my biggest hobbies I tried many restaurants and pubs. I can honestly say that The Oak is one of the best places in London.
Firstly, the service is great: the staff really knows what they’re doing, they know their products and make nice suggestions. On top of that they and are very enthusiastic and kind. One night we had a really nice conversation with one of the waiters about London’s restaurants, the economy in Europe and how he ended up working there (yep very deep for a conversation with a stranger).
Secondly, the food tastes delicious. The Oak serves modern Italian cuisine: antipasti platters, risottos, pasta, thin-crust pizzas with the best toppings… Even thinking of the food makes my mouth water already. As befits an Italian restaurnt, the food isn’t super fancy or uptight – AND affordable for London.
And lastly, the place looks amazing. Upstairs there is room with a large bar and relax couches. The room looks a bit “old”, like you’re drinking in a Mad Men episode. They serve cocktails, drinks and tapas there. Downstairs is the restaurant with large windows and small wooden tables filled with candles. The perfect place to go on a date….
or to go with your friend, or your boyfriend of 3 years… Just go.
